ANNUAL NOTIFICATIONS
The district is required to make available to parents, notices pertaining to certain state and federal mandates, laws, and regulations. These notices are listed here.

The letter must contain the complainant’s name, address, telephone number, and a written description of the alleged discriminatory action in sufficient detail to inform the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights (ASCR) about the nature and date of an alleged civil rights violation. Asbestos | The Environmental Protection Agency has guidelines for schools to use in identifying asbestos within buildings. The Institute of Environmental Assessment has designed a system for determining relative risks and suggesting appropriate safety responses. |
Bullying and Harassment | Harassment, bullying and abuse are violations of school district policies, rules and regulations and, in some cases, may also be a violation of criminal or other laws. The school district has the authority to report students violating this rule to law enforcement officials. |

Dental Screening |
No child will be prevented from attending school without proof of dental screening. If families have difficulty meeting the requirements, IDPH and local public health will provide assistance to children and schools to ensure that the necessary dental screenings are obtained. IDPH encourages parents of children entering kindergarten or ninth grade to contact their health provider to check their child’s records and make appointments for check-ups if necessary. For more information on dental screenings, contact your school nurse. |

Immunization Policies | OABCIG School District new students and kindergarten students must submit a certificate of immunization against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, poliomyelitis, rubeola, rubella, and other immunizations required by law. The student may be admitted conditionally to the attendance center if the student has not yet completed the immunization process, but is in the process of doing so. Failure to meet the immunization requirement will be grounds for suspension, expulsion or denial of admission. Upon recommendation of the Iowa Department of Education and Iowa Department of Public Health, students entering the district may for the first time be required to pass a TB test prior to admission. The district may conduct TB tests of current students. |
Lead Screening | In 2008, a new law requires documentation that children entering kindergarten have had a blood test to determine lead levels. Please ask your doctor if your child has been tested for lead poisoning in the past, and if they have not, please have the test done. The test should be covered by most insurance companies but if not, contact Horn Memorial Hospital and the County Health Department. |
Level One Investigator - Abuse of Students by School Employees | Recent legislation has specific guidelines pertaining to what will be considered acts of physical or sexual abuse by school employees, including inappropriate as well as intentional sexual behavior towards students. Open Enrollment Information | Open enrollment is the cost-free option by which parents/guardians residing in an Iowa district may enroll their children into another Iowa school district under the terms and conditions of Iowa Code section 282.18 and the administrative rules of the Iowa Department of Education, 281 Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 17. Physicals | All students entering preschool and kindergarten must have a current physical along with the state required immunizations. All students entering 9th grade are required to have a physical. Additionally, students in grades 7-12 are required to have an athletic physical prior to participating in extra-curricular sports. Junior high age students often require immunization boosters, so please check with your doctor. All kindergartners entering school must have the Varicella (chickenpox) immunization or documented history of having the disease. If your child has had the chickenpox, then the vaccine is not needed. However, the year they had the disease will need to be placed in the space for the Varicella on the immunization form. School Fee Waiver Policy | If your children are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals, you may also be eligible for other benefits. One of these benefits is the reduction of school fees such as book rent, music fees and driver’s education fees. By signing the “STATEMENT FOR WAIVER OF CONFIDENTIALITY TO REDUCE SCHOOL FEES” you will be releasing information that will show that you applied for free or reduced-price school meals for your children in order to waive the above listed school fees only. You do not have to complete the waiver to get free or reduced-price school meals for your children. You do have to sign the waiver if you wish to have book rent, music fees and/or driver’s education fees reduced or waived. |
School Lockers | Lockers assigned to students attending OABCIG Community School District are the property of the school district. Students shall use the lockers assigned to them by the school district for storing their school materials and personal belongings necessary for attendance at school. It shall be the responsibility of the students to keep their assigned lockers clean and undamaged. |

Student-Athletes Health and Safety | All OABCIG students grades 7 through 12 desiring to participate in athletic activities in the school district shall present the “Athletic Pre-Participation Physical Examination” certificate signed by a licensed physician, osteopathic physician, osteopath, advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP), physician’s assistant or qualified doctor of chiropractic, to the effect that the student has been examined and may safely engage in athletic competition. |
Student Discipline | Breach of discipline is any conduct of students which interferes with the maintenance of school decorum. Acts of behavior which conflict with or disrupt the educational program or which are antagonistic to the welfare of other students and school personnel cannot be tolerated. Insubordination and other misbehavior are incompatible with good citizenship and educational programs. |

Tobacco Free & Smoking, Drinking, Drug Use Policies | In an effort to provide a healthy, safe and productive environment in which to work and learn, the following board policies have been adopted: School district facilities and grounds, including school vehicles, are off limits for tobacco use. This requirement extends to students, employees and visitors. This policy applies at all times, including school-sponsored and nonschool-sponsored events. Persons failing to abide by this request are required to dispose of the tobacco product or leave the school district premises immediately. It is the responsibility of the administration to enforce this policy. Employees of the district are prohibited from the possession, use, or distribution of illegal drugs while on duty. |
